Can Diet Affect Cancer?

In this video, we will cover:

  • Whether diet can affect cancer.
  • Case studies of people who have used diet as part of their cancer management.
  • Possible reasons why diet may impact cancer progression.

Here are a few examples of patients who used dietary manipulations as part of their cancer management:

  • Jane McLelland (https://www.howtostarvecancer.com/): Jane McLelland is one of the most prominent voices on using supplements and repurposed drugs (as well as diet, exercise, and high-dose vitamin C) to fight cancer, after being diagnosed with the disease three times (the last one being attributed to the high doses of chemo and radiotherapy used to cure her previous tumors). Despite being given only a few weeks to live, her incessant research led her to achieve remission from a metastatic stage. Her highly recommended knowledge can be accessed both from a book (https://amzn.to/3ZxR0Yi) and an online course (https://how-to-starve-cancer.teachable.com/);
  • Kelly A. Turner (https://www.radicalremission.com/): Although not a cancer patient herself (the only exception to this list) it’s worth mentioning Kelly A. Turner, and her famous book “Radical Remission” (https://amzn.to/47AcvcT) – also available as an online course on her website. Kelly’s work tries to find commonalities between cancer patients who had spontaneous regressions of their tumors – lots of which using diet as a significant component;
  • Guy Tenenbaum (https://www.survivefromcancer.com/): This is a former Stage 4 Prostate Cancer patient who managed to achieve remission using a combination of ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, fat and protein restriction, and supplements. His diet is the one that MOST resembles the recommendations in our course. He has several books published in English and French (such as https://amzn.to/3TAqfyu), and is even creating a research paper based on his protocol;
  • My 4th Cancer (https://www.youtube.com/@my-4th-cancer): This is a patient who had cancer 4 times. The first three he treated with standard of care, but for the fourth time he rejected the traditional options and decided to use a combination of ketogenic diet, supplements, long fasts, and exercise – eventually reverting his metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma into complete remission;
  • Sarona Rameka (https://www.saronarameka.com/): This patient, whose case report is described at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7227442/, achieved a near-complete regression of a metastatic Thymoma using only water fasting and a ketogenic diet – as chemotherapy and radiotherapy offer little survival improvement for Thymomas. Her website offers a free, downloadable book for patients wanting to learn more about the ketogenic diet;
  • Maggie Jones (https://cancerv.me/): This patient achieved complete remission of her Stage 4 Cancer by throwing everything at it: in addition to standard of care options such as chemo and radiotherapy, she used a combination of ketogenic diet, fasting, repurposed drugs, meditation, hyperbaric chambers, heath therapies, and supplements. Besides her website, where she shares great advice for patients, she has a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@cancerVme) where she interviews other cancer survivors for even more tips;
  • Pablo Kelly (https://www.youtube.com/@pablokelly624/): Pablo is a very interesting case, which is covered on the research paper https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8200410/. He had a deadly Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer where the median overall survival is a bit over one year. Given the low success rate of chemo and radiotherapy for Glioblastomas, he rejected Standard of Care. However, after a debulking surgery that removed 80% of his tumor, he managed to survive for close to a decade, using a combination of ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, supplements, and exercise. Unfortunately, his tumor started growing again (which he attributes to relapsing out of the ketogenic diet and gaining some extra weight) and passed away from the bleeding after a new surgery. Although he is the only non-survivor from this list, his case it still remarkable, as he managed to considerably outlive his prognosis;
  • Jeff De Prosperis (https://www.youtube.com/@BlessingsOnMyJourney): This is a Stage 4 Colon Cancer patient managing his disease with a combination of carnivore diet, long fasts, exercise, time-restricted feeding, chemotherapy, supplements, and cold and heat therapies. Although not yet in remission, he has been managing the disease well, has several instructional videos on his channel, and is overall a positive human being who is inspiring to watch;
